6FLASHCARDSDC Circuit
Core laws, network methods and circuit calculations.
Circuit laws and sources
Q1State Ohm’s law.
At constant physical conditions, current is directly proportional to applied voltage: V = IR.
Q2What does Kirchhoff’s current law state?
The algebraic sum of currents at a node is zero; total current entering equals total current leaving.
Q3What is source transformation?
A voltage source V in series with R is equivalent to a current source V/R in parallel with the same R.
Network theorems
Q1State Thevenin’s theorem.
A linear two-terminal network can be replaced by one voltage source Vth in series with resistance Rth.
Q2How is Norton current found?
Short the load terminals and calculate the resulting short-circuit current.
Q3When is maximum power transferred to a DC load?
When load resistance equals the Thevenin resistance seen from the load terminals.
